Every time I open gpedit.msc it opens but it displays an error which says "mmc could not create the snap-in" I've tried certain solutions but I still get the error can someone help me.

What exact version of Windows 8  you are running ?

In Windows 8, the Group Policy is included only with Windows 8 Pro and Enterprise Editions.

What solution have you tried?

Press the WinKey+R to display the Run dialog.
Type winver and click OK.

This will show the version you are using.
